The ancient Greek philosopher Plato is said to have remarked, “God is eternally geometric.”
Ideas, as he proposed, are the “true forms” or “archetypes” of individual objects in the sensory world (reality). For example, when a designer like myself contemplates Ideas, we might imagine perfect straight lines or spheres. Are atoms, molecules, and neutrons perfect things in our world? Surely, all other matter that exists in this world is, strictly speaking, distorted and illusory. And, extending from this, I dream: if God or angels have form, then they themselves must also be perfect straight lines and geometric shapes.
SHUN OKUBO’s Holy series is named after perfect straight lines, perfect equilateral triangles, and the God that Plato spoke of. Dreaming of the perfect forms of the Idea world to be placed on fingertips, arms, and the ends of the body.
Humans, because of their imperfect existence, yearn for God, eternity, and perfect existence. When you examine SHUN OKUBO’s Holy series items—the ideal of a ring worn on your fingertip—with a magnifying glass, they might appear subtly distorted in our dimension. However, we possess imagination. I believe that by imagining the ideal, we can gently connect with the realm of ideals. I imbue my jewelry with the courage to believe that divinity is always close at hand, like a fingertip, and that humans can connect with the great order and harmony of this universe. Because I believe that sometimes we need something like that, a little amulet.

「神は永遠に幾何学する」とかつて古代ギリシャの哲学者プラトンが語ったそうだ。
イデア（Idea）とは、彼が唱えた、感覚世界（現実）の個物における「真の姿」や「原型」のことで、例えば私のようのデザイナーがイデアを思う時、完全な直線や球体、などを想起したりするだろう。原子や分子や中性子なんかは我々の世界における完全な事柄なのだろうか。それら以外のこの世に存在する物質はきっと厳密には歪で虚な形をしているのだろう。そしてまた、その延長で私は夢を見る。神や天使にもし形があるのならば、それら自身もまた完全な直線であり幾何学的な形なのだろうと。
SHUN OKUBOのholyシリーズは、完全な直線、完全な正三角形、またプラトンの言う神を夢想して名付けられた。指先に、腕に、身体の先に添えられるイデア界の完全な形を夢見て。
人間はその不完全な存在が故に、神や永遠や完全な存在に憧れる。指先に纏ったリングとしてのイデア、SHUN OKUBOのholyシリーズのアイテムをルーペで覗いてみると我々の次元の世界では、実際には微妙に歪に見えるかもしれない。しかしながら、われわれは想像力というものを持っている。イデアを想像することで人はイデア界とそっと繋がることができると私は思う。神聖さとはいつでも指先のような近いところにあるのだと、人間はこの宇宙の偉大な秩序と調和と繋がれるのだと、そのような勇気を私はジュエリーに込める。そんなちょっとしたお守りのようなものが時には我々には必要だと思うからだ。
